KAYONZA YOUTH FRIENDLY CENTER

 

                                      I.            INTRODUCTION

Kayonza Youth Friendly Center (KYFC) is a public institution and one of the youth friendly centres which have been created by the Ministry of Youth and ICT (MYICT) supported by Global Fund through its Project-SSF/HIV. This centre is located in Abisunganye Village, Bwiza cell, Mukarange sector, Kayonza District, in the Eastern Province. KYFC started its activities on 22th August 2012.

II.            VISION

The vision of Kayonza Youth Friendly Center (KYFC) is to make and keep the youth of Kayonza District HAPPI (Healthy, Apt/ with attitude, Productive, Patriotic and Innovative), through different significant programmes for youth development and the main objectives of this centre are namely:

1.      To reduce poverty and ensure the capacity building of youth through self-employment

2.      To prevent the drugs abuse and sexually transmitted Infections (STIs) among youth

3.      To give knowledge to youth through BCC (Behavior Change Communication) on reproductive health and fighting against unwanted pregnancies

KYFC COMPOSITION

KYFC has a staff of eight employees:

-       One Coordinator of the Center

-       One VCT Supervisor

-       Three Counsellors

-       One Lab Technician

-       Two Peer Educators

 

  IV.            WORKING STRATEGIES

KYFC works most of the time through different clubs that help us achieve a number of youth in different sectors of Kayonza District, and in the center.

Among those clubs, some work in the center, and others work out of the center in the sectors.

      V.            ACTIVITIES

In order to achieve its objectives, KYFC has the main activities that are always done in and out of the center. Those activities are as follow:

1.      BBC services:

-       Peer education and IPC in:

            -  Family planning

-  Reproductive health

-  Fighting against HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs)

-  Male Circumcision (MC)

-  Fighting against drugs abuse

 

 2.      VCT services and Pregnancy test

 3.      Youth entertainment  and leisure

 4.      Entrepreneurship

  5.      Vocation training
